Anderson Spickard Jr. M.D. is Emeritus Professor of Medicine and Psychiatry at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He has been active in the practice and teaching of internal medicine for over 45 years. He was the founding medical director of the Vanderbilt Institute for Treatment of Addiction for years and the Past Medical Director of The Center for Professional Health at Vanderbilt.
In June 2003, he was awarded the Chancellor’s Chair in Medicine for his contributions to research and teaching of addiction and physician wellness. Dr. Spickard is a nationally recognized expert in the area of substance abuse. He is the co-author of the book, Dying for a Drink- What You and Your Family Should Know about Alcoholism which was revised in 2005 and translated into seven languages and Braille. His recent book, Stay with Me-Stories of a Black Bag Doctor was published in August 2011.
